[Tech note: for some reason, this version of the overall theme specifies the height: 100%; width: 100.2%; — that’s causing the hover to overhang the image by a small amount.]

Note that there are image size and image cropping options that depend on the format of your originals (landscape, or portrait). Think of those options as the window that the images are viewed through. Especially, if you choose the “Flexible height option”— that should be called “flexible width” since it makes the image fill the width of the column it’s in.
